In terms of facing climate change, cutting carbon emissions to limit global warming is essential for industries and its real estate portfolio. In this context, a decarbonization roadmap provides the strategic framework for deriving measures that ensure a steady reduction of carbon emissions in combination with compensation measures to achieve a net-zero carbon footprint. Aware of this, the client reached out to Siemens Real Estate to collaborate on the development of a decarbonization strategy for its real estate portfolio.

Together with the costumer's internal stakeholders, the strategy fordecarbonization of the company's real estate was developed iteratively as part of a series of workshops. Taking into account the company-wide sustainability requirements, the strategy is based on the definition of various levers and fields of action. These include e.g. a portfolio review and consolidation, the implementation of green leases in the leased portfolio and the adoption of energy efficiency and electrification projects in major owned sites.
