Aspern Smart City Research Gmbh & Co. KG (ASCR)
Wien Austria
Together with Siemens the city of Vienna is developing and testing smart and digital applications with a focus on the domains of smart buildings and smart grids. Multiple buildings of the city of Vienna are or were operated by b.eos as part of the R&D program Aspern Smart City Research (ASCR). Goal is the operation of the electric energy system with minimum operation costs.
For this project the three use cases apply. Self-Consumption Optimization (SCO): Using the generated PV power in a
cost-optimal way, considering a limit for grid feed-in as well as dynamic
feed-in prices.
Grid Charge Reduction (GCR): Minimized monthly peak power costs. Day-Ahead Optimization (DAO): The battery is operated in a
cost-optimal
way based on a
PV generation forecast, el. base load forecast and dynamic tariffs for grid demand and feed-in.
GCR and DAO: Optimized grid demand based on dynamic day-ahead electricity prices.
Depending
on the month, the monthly peak power costs can be reduced up to 30%. The generated
PV power is used in alignment with feed-in limit. PV
system is curtailed to avoid negative electricity prices. Depending
on the electricity prices (dynamic consumption and feed-in prices), the
electric heaters use surplus power, if this is cost-optimal.
Aspen is a smart city district at the outskirts of Vienna where the city of Vienna, together with Siemens, is developing and testing smart and digital
applications with a focus on the domains of smart buildings and smart grids.
