Levate wanted to create a common “framework” for their cranes from software to hardware. The cranes are working in a very harsh environment, therefore they need to be robust and they need to keep downtime at a minimum. One big thing was being able to synchronise the two hoists speed in a master/follower setup.

Levate used all Siemens low voltage control gear, SINAMICS G120 variable speed drives and SIMATIC S7-1500 PLC systems. They had a lot of support from Siemens all the way through from initial discussions/thoughts all the way through to setup/FAT.

We can use one supplier that we can achieve all our projects with. Our service and engineering staff can get used to using one platform, this allows us to support our customers more effectively. Some of our cranes go out to different parts of the world, therefore using Siemens components spares could be picked up in the customers local region.
