QuadTech Inc.(parent company: Quad/Grafics)
No matter what Quad/Grafics prints or in what quantity, output color and quality must always be flawless with minimal waste.
Ease of support: The new PTS had to become easier to install, use and troubleshoot, trimming the technical support load upon the company’s limited resources.
Six goals as driver: adaptability, simplification, future-proofing, modular scalability, ease of support and reducing total cost of ownership.
QuadTech saw this as an opportunity to rethink and reengineer the PTS for these more demanding capabilities. It was especially timely, given the debut of the Siemens SIMATIC S7-1500 PLC family with advanced features, modularity and scalability.
Used Products:
CPU 1516-3 PN/DP
CP 1543-1
Comfort Panels Outdoor
SIMATIC WinCC V7 Basic-SW
"Now, after creating a single code-set that’s adaptable to all our press installations, we can manage and update it in the TIA Portal quickly and easily."
Jim Steffl, Lead Engineer
Ready for the future through key features like global library, integrated system diagnostics and the webserver (single code-set, adaptable to every installation and changes using the TIA Portal are quick and easy).
Easy installation, use and trouble shooting in the field generates savings of $ 50,000 a year per press (better waste management).
Staying competitive with evolving customer needs provides rapid scalability to various presses.
As a leader in its field, Quad/Graphics has many printing plants around the world. They all have capital-intensive integrated printing presses that feature complex, end-stage material handling capabilities like portable, interchangeable conveyors, trimmers, folders and stackers. QuadTech’s role is to develop and support advanced, technology-based systems to ensure the highest quality, most economical output.
