First time automation of a compressor test bed: increased capacity, improved quality
Machine Building
Bitzer Kühlmaschinenbau GmbH, Facility Rottenburg
Experimental automation of a test bed to control the condensation and vaporisation pressure as well as the suction gas temperature: Due to extremely slow reaction of the cooling cycle the working points have been set empirically. This means that the automated performance measurement of such a difficult, time consuming control path is the challenge to program. For the determination of performance values must last for a specified time to conform to standards.
With the help of control algorithms (three control structures, independent from each, two recipes) working points can now be run-up faster and without dangerous overshoot. The complete process is logged for documentation purpose, but also to ensure continuous improvements.
„We will
transfer the concept to further test beds and therefor hope that we can bring
our products faster to marketability.“
Dr. Frank Vetter, head of technology and development
Triple the test capacity due to a longer period of use of the machine, especially thanks to overnight operation
Improved quality and better ability of logging through automated and thus comparable test cycles
Reduced manual supervision thanks to dynamically faster run-up of working points
