The city of Stuttgart aims to become climate-neutral by 2035, ten years earlier than required by law. To achieve this goal, Stuttgarter Straßenbahnen AG is converting its bus fleet to CO₂-neutral operation. To meet its hydrogen needs, Stadtwerke Stuttgart sought a scalable, safe, and cost-effective electrolysis solution for the local production of green hydrogen.
To optimize the facility, b.eos was implemented to increase flexibility in energy usage. Energy monitoring is handled via cloud-based energy and asset management platform Navigator from Siemens. Fault management is provided as a managed service. Performance monitoring is carried out via Building X, supplemented by automated reporting and regulatory compliance management. The implementation had to comply with KRITIS requirements. The integration of various systems and building services was complex and required close coordination. In addition, operational reliability and cost-effectiveness had to be ensured despite fluctuating electricity market prices.

Stadtwerke Stuttgart benefits from a scalable solution for producing green hydrogen that meets both environmental and economic requirements. The integrated Siemens products and digital services enable optimized energy use, greater flexibility in the electricity market, and stable operating costs over the long term. The solution actively supports the City of Stuttgart’s climate roadmap and strengthens the reliability of supply for public transit.
Installation of an electrolysis system to produce green hydrogen (12 MWel) by Stadtwerke Stuttgart, with support from Siemens as the system integrator. Siemens is responsible for, among other things, process automation, building management systems, fire alarm and security systems, and the integration of a battery storage system (2 MW / 4 MWh). Project area: approx. 2,100 m².
