The company is specialized in design and production of containment and insulation systems and of micronization solutions for handling and manufacture of active substances and sterile pharmaceuticals. It is now recognized internationally, also because of its extreme flexibility and ability to adapt to the needs of its customer, which are mostly pharmaceutical, chemical and cosmetic companies.
FPS’s portfolio is composed of:

containment systems for all possible sector needs and requests
insulators for primary production of API and HPAPI
insulators for formulation and packaging of HPAPI
insulators for sterile applications
hybrid systems that allow to manage toxic products in aseptic conditions

FPS’ fluid energy mills and mechanical mills perform micronization processes, to ensure high quality fine grinding.

The containment systems produced by FPS allow operators to handle highly toxic powders (HAPI and HPAPI) or sterile powders safely and efficiently. During these phases the operator has to execute some commands to control doors and open process valves. FPS had thus the necessity for a technology that, thanks to vocal commands, could allow the operator to perform various tasks without ever having to take their hands out of gloves to input commands on the HMI, resulting in simplicity and fluidity of work. The declared aim was to:

reduce production times
facilitate work and cleanup procedures for the operator, without interrupting or slowing down machine operativity

Thanks to SAM, Simatic Assistant for Machines, the operator is able to perform various tasks using vocal commands on the HMI. SAM is an Edge application by Siemens that allows interaction with various machines through a voice assistant based on Artificial Intelligence. The application exploits a Natural Language Processing (NLP) neural network to recognize and understand the operator’s voice or text commands though a chat that can work offline locally on the machine. Moreover, it is possible to interact with the voice assistant through mobile devices, which enables remote control of the machine. In addition, FPS has in fact been able to access edge applications such as:

S7-Connector, for data collection from the field
Simatic Flow Creator, for processing on location
Industrial Edge Management, central orchestrator, in order to manage software functions of the devices distributed on the machines and to monitor their status, even remotely.
