You probably heard it already: Buildings are responsible for more than 1/3 of the global greenhouse gas
emissions! This puts the building sector into the core of the climate change debate. For Siemens Real Estate,
this means that our building portfolio with roughly 8,8 Million m² rentable space is a huge lever to reduce
our carbon footprint and represents a key driver towards Siemens’ net zero target.
One leading role model regarding sustainability is the Siemens Brazil Regional Company Headquarters
in the vibrant city of São Paulo (LOC-BR-SPOMU - Anhanguera, Brazil). This SRE owned location with
around 17.000 m² rentable space impresses with a series of sustainability features, such as:
LED lighting, solar heating and 6 state-of-the-art EV-chargers
A waste system ensuring zero landfill as well as water and sewage treatment
Rainwater flushing toilets and water saving faucets to address Brazil’s significant
water supply challenges
Additionally, a 260 kWp photovoltaic system is currently being planned
Highlight: The real highlight at this location is a rare piece of Atlantic Rain Forest that Siemens owns and which
receives continuous preservation since 1974. The ~71.000 m² forest serves as a green lung within the
concrete jungle of Sao Paulo and is highly valued for its importance in terms of environmental protection.
It represents an extensive biotope for all kinds of flora and fauna and is home to more than 75 species,
such as Marmosets, Toucans, Bats and many more!
In order to raise awareness among the Siemens employees and visitors as to the importance of
sustainability, Anhanguera site constructed a 280 m long ecological forest trail. The trail is also
a tribute to Hermann Wever, who led Siemens Brazil for 14 years and who continuously supported
environmental projects as well as social programs aimed at young people.
Looking at the energy consumption figures of this site, it is not surprising that the forest sequesters
more carbon than the location actually emits. All in all, the Siemens location in Anhanguera is setting
new standards and convinces all along the line in terms of sustainability. It’s setting the sails for the
future and serves as a lighthouse on our way to net zero!
