Kurzentrum Bad Hofgastein GmbH & Co. KG I Alpentherme Gastein
Bad Hofgastein Austria
The spa in Bad Hofgastein is one of the largest alpine
spas in Austria, with over 36,000 m² and more than 500,000 guests per year. The
path to a climate-neutral spa was supported initially by modernizing and
optimizing the entire building technology, followed by the modernization of six
heat pumps as well as investments in a photovoltaic system. The customer's main
objectives were environmental protection, resource conservation, and
sustainability. By using thermal water as a renewable energy source, a
significant reduction in the CO₂ footprint was achieved.
Siemens started the project with the Bad Hofgastein
spa back in 2020. First, the entire building technology was completely
modernized and optimized. Afterwards, Siemens modernized six heat pumps and
invested in photovoltaic systems. In 2023, a new, modern heat pump system with
a capacity of 600 kW was installed, resulting in a total of 2,000 kW heat pump
capacity now being available. As a result of all these measures implemented by
Siemens, the demand for district heating was reduced by 180 megawatt hours and
415 tons of CO₂ are saved per year.
“The
use of thermal water as a renewable energy source is a crucial step for us in
reducing our CO₂ footprint.”
Klaus Lemmerer, Managing
Director, Alpentherme Gastein
Energy autonomy and efficiency:
The clever combination of photovoltaic systems, heat pumps, and the use of
thermal water increases the spa’s energy autonomy and efficiency.
Cost savings:
The natural heat from the thermal water reduces operating costs, as less
energy is required for heating.
Modern building management system: Desigo CC provides optimal monitoring, control, and
transparency for all facilities.
Sustainability and future viability:
The implemented measures ensure sustainable and future-proof operations,
supporting compliance with climate protection regulations.
CO₂ savings:
A total of 415 tons of CO₂ is saved annually.
Alpentherme Gastein is one of Austria's largest and most modern thermal spas. With an area of over 36,000 m², diverse experience and wellness areas, and approximately 500,000 visitors annually, it offers a unique thermal and recreational experience in the heart of the Gastein Valley. As a pioneer in sustainability, the spa relies on energy-efficient technologies and the use of thermal water as a renewable energy source.
