In 1998, Siemens Customer Services installed the DTCM system on the gear unit of the vertical mill drive to assure the long-term operational fitness of the gear unit and to minimize the risk of failure. In 2009, Siemens carried out a cost-effective retrofit action. The main component of the Condition Monitoring system was replaced by up-to-date hardware, but the sensors and cables installed on the drive could continue to be used. Another milestone was reached in 2013, when the analog technology was replaced by broadband technology. Since then parameterization has been an easy task thanks to the faster transmission technology.
Now, the customer wanted to be able to detect failures at an early stage and to improve the overall productivity.
Siemens provided a Remote Monitoring Service solution and thanks to the early detected bearing damage spare parts were delivered on time to the customer site and repair was performed during the scheduled maintenance.
The decision for the Remote Condition Monitoring Service from Siemens on such an enormously important plant was absolutely right.
Rudolf Wühr Head of Maintenance, Märker Holding GmbH
Increased plant availability and productivity
Early detected incipient damage and quick response times, helped to avoid consequential damage
Condition-based maintenance and reduced maintenance costs

Märker Zement GmbH began producing portland cement in 1906. In 2003, the company took over a cement mill in Lauffen am Neckar – the ideal complement to its main plant in Harburg. The continual further development of the production plants at both locations was accompanied by continual optimization of the range of products.
Today, its range covers all the relevant types of cement on the market. This makes Märker an important South German cement producer that can reliably supply the markets of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. The Märker Group is a reliable, independent, regional partner for industry and the construction sector. At over 30 sites, it produces high quality products in the cement, lime, ready-mixed concrete, gravel and sand business segments for its customers.
