AUDI is a global premium automobile manufacturer based in Ingolstadt. With over 87.000 employees, 1.7 million vehicles are produced annually at 16 locations in 8 countries. In vehicle production, a clear path towards digital and flexible manufacturing is being pursued.
Objectives: Joining steels of varying strengths creates welding spatters that hinder follow-up steps and require rework. So far, inspection and correction were manual and time-critical. The customer aims to automate this process using AI across multiple lines and sites.
Optical detection and automated rework of weld spatter on vehicle bodies, based on a customer trained AI-Algorithm and high-resolution images.
The Siemens Application AI Inference Server provides a secure runtime for custom vision AI models to detect product defects. In addition the Asset Manager centrally orchestrates, monitors, and scales AI models across the factory.
It's secure, it's close to the shop floor, and we have the whole process in our hands.
Mathias Mayer, Innovation Manager
  • Higher production quality with fewer defects: AI-driven analysis enhances car body inspection accuracy, ensuring consistently high output quality.
  • Reduced costs through automation: Minimizes manual inspection effort, enabling more efficient use of skilled laber and lowering cost per unit.
  • Seamless integration into existing environments: Easily connect IT and OT systems – from cloud to shop floor.
