The district cooling system is used to supply the St. Pölten State Clinic with cold water for air
conditioning. The required base load is provided in summer by
an absorber chiller, in winter by a free cooling station. The heat is
dissipated via a heat exchanger that is charged from a water flow nearby. The
turbo chillers are used to cover residual and peak loads.
The individual transfer stations are supplied
with cold air via an underground transmission line in Mühlweg and
Matthias-Corvinusstraße. System data: absorber chiller with 2 MW cooling
capacity, 4 turbo chillers with 2.5 MW cooling capacity each, 4 hybrid
recoolers installed above the Mühlbach, 2 cold water storage tanks (1 x 750 m3
and 1 x 1000 m3).
Existing space could be used for the
turbo chillers and the cold buffer storage, the district cooling system was
connected to the existing control system. Due to the geographical placement of
the district heating - exactly between the state hospital and the university of
applied sciences - the routes for the cooling pipes were kept short. Using existing infrastructure kept
costs down.
