Better data – and better science – with a digitally powered Coriolis flow system
An analytical science corporation in the northeastern USA that develops instruments for laboratory-based applications (including industrial, academic, and government organizations), needs to be able to design, extract, and measure a variety of chemical compounds. Amongst their specialities, the analytical science corp also focuses on designing customized SFE and SFC systems.
Their system relies on supercritical carbon dioxide (CO2) instead of organic solvents to provide selective sample extractions and/or measurement. Because it behaves as a gas at standard temperatures and pressures, the facility implemented the SITRANS MASS 2110 sensor and MASS 6000 transmitter. The company needed to expand their capabilities and upgrade their equipment to comply with the RoHS Directive for hazardous materials.
A local Siemens area representative suggested the next-generation of digital flow solutions: the SITRANS FCT010. The FCT010 was recommended because it is a powerful, very compact Coriolis transmitter that was designed for skids and other small-footprint assembles - providing a major benefit for the SFE and SFC systems. The FCT010 also has superior performance capabilities (e.g. advanced digital signal processing technologies and detectioni of flow rate changes 100Hz).
The company was pleased to learn that the new transmitter could be paired seamlessly with the existing MASS 2100 sensor, which had proven to be the ideal low-flow sensor for measuring supercritical CO2. They also liked that the FCT010 was extremely simple to install as a result of its small size and easy-to-use wiring connections.
They placed an order for 100 FCT010 transmitters to be included with their new SFE and SFC systems. The upgraded systems are benefiting from faster communication coupled with better procecss data. This enables them to have higher-precision and more efficient extractions and measurements for laboratories. This upgrade also gives the company the opportunity to sell into the European Union.
