Monitoring the carbon footprint is not only a matter of corporate responsiblity to an industry leading manufacturer - it could be the key to meaningful optimisations on all three ESG levels. Being aware of that, our client MANN+HUMMEL reached out to Siemens Real Estate (SRE) and Siemens Smart Infrastructure (SI) in a call for cooperation to establish a guideline for a global monitoring system for its facilities. The targeted sustainability goals and the specified emission reductions required the main energy consumptions of the energy-relevant production locations to be displayed at a glance.

In an answer to this obstacle, certain prerequisites had to be met: 

• a clear status quo of the installed base,
• a global blueprint for the minimal requirements for a generic measurement and counting concept,
• a gap analysis (status quo to minimal requirements)

Combining competencies, SRE and SI managed to provide a holistic consulting service to MANN+HUMMEL.The transformation process has been initiated with the development of a blueprint, serving as a structured baseline for an upcoming metering concept, which can be used in every production location. Secondly, the current emissive performance of all production plants in scope has been identified. A questionnaire was created as a result of the first analysis phase and based on the definition of the minimum requirements, and will be sent to all production locations for completion. This has been used to collect all location-specific data for the subsequent data collection system.
