The energy crisis in the world and therefore the increase in costs puts
pressure on all companies. For this reason, the importance of energy efficiency
is increasing day by day, especially energy-intensive areas like wood industry.
Because of these reasons Starwood wanted to increase the overall energy
savings by increasing the energy efficiency of process pumps in MDF line one.
Starwood needed an energy efficiency solution partner in its processes to
achieve these.
As a result of the energy audit, Siemens service experts offered a
retrofit solution for the process fan drives. In the current situation, the flow
rate was adjusted by the suction damper. With the retrofit project, a driver
application was carried out for regulating the flow of fan without the using
damper.
The project scope included the following:
Supply and commissioning of the following products: SINAMICS G120 (55 kW); Cabinet.
Press
PLC and Scada program revisions.
Measurement of energy consumption and motor body temperatures before and after
the application.
Reporting the savings amounts specified in the feasibility report with
measurements after implementation.
Measurement and Verification for Energy Performance Contract.
For the feasibility report, a detailed energy audit was performed by Siemens service experts according to ISO 50002.
As a result of feasibility report 63% energy saving potential was
created and the payback time of investment was 1,5 years.
Process knowhow and the software were developed by Siemens engineers
and commissioned with the using a Sinamics G120 (55 kW) drive in Starwood MDF plant. The energy performance guarantee was given by Siemens and before and after
measurements and verification were done by certified Siemens energy efficiency experts.
Increased production control with the drive application on process
pumps was achieved. The power consumption will be reduced from 43,2 kW to 15,9 kW.
Starwood, engaged in the wood based panel board industry, is one of the biggest industrial companies in Turkey with its growing production capacity and new investments every year. The company has the highest production volume capacity in Turkey. It produces 2,000 m³ MDF per day on 2 lines and 3,000 m³ chipboard on 3 lines, which is especially specialized in the production of thin MDF from 1.5 mm to 8 mm. Starwood has a total production capacity of 220.000 m² in a 180.000 m² closed area in the İnegöl plant and has a production capacity of 30.000 sheets / day with 8 short cycle press lines (dims 1830 mm and 2100 mm) together with a Georgian plant.
