The energy crisis in the world and the associated increase in costs is putting pressure on all companies. For this reason, the importance of energy efficiency is increasing day by day, especially in energy-intensive sectors such as the wood industry. For these reasons, Starwood needed to increase their production quality at the pneumatic separator (classifier process) and overall energy savings by increasing the energy efficiency of the MDF line one. To achieve this, Starwood needed a partner for energy efficiency solutions in its processes.
Specific process automation solutions were implemented in the processes, currently controlled with PLC and SCADA systems:
Eff-DRY automation algorithm (PLC) and SCADA programming for the classifier process
Measurement and verification for the energy performance contract
Performance testing and post-application checks for driver, PLC and SCADA system
Optimization by determining the working parameters in accordance with the production capacity of the equipment to be automated
Reporting of the saving amounts indicated in the feasibility report with post-implementation measurements
The feasibility report showed an energy savings potential of 43% and a payback time for the investment of 0.4 years. The energy performance was guaranteed by Siemens and the before and after measurements and verification were performed by a certified Siemens energy efficiency expert. Electricity consumption is reduced from 494 kW to 282 kW. There is also increased production quality in terms of fine automation control of the classifier process using Eff-DRY software. 644 tons of CO2 emissions per year and 1,932 tree equivalents for the environment were saved.
Starwood, engaged in the wood based panel board industry, is one of the biggest industrial companies in Turkey with its growing production capacity and new investments every year. The company has the highest production volume capacity in Turkey. It produces 2.000 m³ MDF per day on 2 lines and 3000 m³ chipboard on 3 lines, which is especially specialized in the production of thin MDF from 1.5 mm to 8 mm. Starwood has a total production capacity of 220.000 m² in a 180.000 m² closed area in the İnegöl plant and has a production capacity of 30.000 sheets / day with 8 short cycle press lines (dimensions: 1830 mm and 2100 mm) together with a Georgian plant.
