As the wood industry is one of the most energy-intensive areas, the Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) production is the branch with the highest energy consumption. Due to its high energy consumption, energy efficiency applications are important for this sector. Siemens became energy efficiency services and solution partner for the customer after a completed Detailed Energy Audit (DEA) in this plant.
As an output of the energy audit, the Camsan Sakarya plant wanted to increase the overall energy savings by increasing the energy efficiency of drying processes in the MDF 2 production line. Siemens service experts have a huge amount of knowledge on MDF production with fiber dryer processes and their retrofit projects are well known by the wood sector manufacturers.
For the feasibility report, detailed energy audits were performed by the services team according to ISO 50002. As a result of the feasibility report, 18% energy saving potential was created and the payback time of investment was 0,1 year (1 month). The dryer-process is the most energy intensive process in MDF plants and Eff-DRY software creates dramatically increasing effects on the efficiency of dryer-processes. Process know-how and the software were developed by Siemens service engineers and the second application was commissioned in the MDF plant.
The measurements before the Eff-DRY automation software application and the measurements after the installation was compared in order to determine the overall energy savings and payback period.
Technical solution in detail:
SIMATIC S7-300 PLC and ET200 IO Station
Eff-DRY Automation Algorithm (PLC) and Scada Programming
Measurement and Verification
A better energy performance was guaranteed by Siemens and power consumption was reduced from 1,600 kW to 1,316 kW with Eff-DRY application. Measurements after the application showed that the average ratio of savings is 18%.
Çamsan Entegre Ağaç Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş, which is the first company to bring this technology to Turkey, continues its leadership in the sector in terms of quality and product range. The company which is placed among Turkey's top 500 companies for long years, is increasing its exports by increasing its hold on international markets as leader of domestic markets and sectors. The plant started production by commissioning MDF, coating press and laminate flooring. Production facilities with new investments about up to 80 million euros in 2016 have been established on a total area of 300.000 m2 and a 90.000 m2 closed area together with high capacity MDF production facilities.
