Public transportation is vital for urban mobility and economic growth, with billions of passengers in countries like Germany, Switzerland, and Austria relying on trains annually, with Germany alone recording 1.84 billion passengers in 2023. As rail use increases, fire detection systems are essential for passenger safety.
Therefore, Siemens Mobility was looking for a reliable and stand-alone fire detection system that
meets SIL2 requirements
enables a direct connection to the Train Control and Management System (TCMS) without the need for a special fire control panel
is a plug-and-play solution
guarantees durability and reliability
meets the highest quality standards and use V0 material
763 Vectron locomotives were equipped with various stand-alone spot detector variants, such as multi-criteria spot detectors and optical spot detectors. These detectors featured rough bases and came with a customized plug-and-play solution. These detectors collaborated to provide comprehensive fire detection for rolling stock. The integration with systems works seamlessly, ensuring reliable performance. The main challenge was ensuring the detectors could operate effectively under extreme environmental conditions in the engine room.
The stand-alone concept eliminates the need for a separate fire control panel, reducing failure points and simplifying installation. It offers flexibility, allowing users to link detectors directly to the TCMS.
Everybody has a part to help to improve sustainability. Every day Siemens Mobility promises to safely and sustainably carry thousands of people to their destinations.
Siemens provided the fire detection solution for the Vectron locomotives of Siemens Mobility. They are constructed in different factories in Germany.
