The Vectron Dual Mode locomotive of Siemens Mobility offers a sustainable solution for electrified and non-electrified rail sections, reducing fuel consumption and emissions. As sustainability becomes more important, the rolling stock market demands electric trains, emphasizing the need for advanced fire detection systems for passenger safety. Therefore, Siemens Mobility was looking for a reliable fire detection solution.
We delivered tailored plug-and-play fire detectors that provided a cohesive fire detection solution, seamlessly integrating with existing systems. Extreme conditions, especially in engine rooms, are designed to not affect this approach. It allowed a direct connection to the Train Control and Management System (TCMS) without requiring a dedicated fire control panel. The projects required high standards for materials, including V0 material, along with a heightened focus on safety considerations (SIL2).
Our fire detection systems, which included
multi-criteria spot detectors and optical spot detectors with plug-and-play rough base options, equipped 79 Vectron Dual Mode locomotives. The project faced challenges in ensuring the detectors’ durability and performance under extreme conditions in the engine room.
The stand-alone concept eliminates the need for an additional fire control panel, enhancing system reliability and minimizing failure points. It offers high availability, redundancy, and flexibility, allowing easy adaptation to different environments.
Everybody has a part to play in helping to improve sustainability,
especially when it comes to the transportation of goods, which accounts for 21% of global
CO2 emissions. Improving the safety of products for transportation promotes a change that will help transportation to be a reasonable choice for shipping.
Siemens provided the fire detection solution for the Vectron Dual Mode locomotives of Siemens Mobility. They are constructed in different factories in Germany.
