The Reutte District Hospital originally planned to create a climate-neutral heat supply only for the newly built nursing home on the premises. However, due to high satisfaction with previous projects and the trust gained in Siemens, this plan was expanded. The new, larger goal was now to make the entire heat generation for the entire campus climate-neutral. In doing so, it was important for the hospital to significantly reduce CO2 emissions and to implement modern digital as well as sustainable solutions. With this, they wanted to show that a hospital can also become completely climate-neutral and take on a pioneering role in the healthcare sector.
To help the Reutte District Hospital supply the entire campus with climate-neutral heat, Siemens implemented a large and comprehensive solution. The core of the new heating plant consists of three large heat pumps, which together provide 1,200 kW of power. These utilize well water for heating and cooling. Siemens built this new heating plant and seamlessly connected it to the hospital's existing heating system. The project also included replacing the old cooling system with a more efficient groundwater cooling system and installing heat storage units. Siemens also took care of the ventilation, the entire electrical system, and the lighting on campus. For controlling all the technology, building automation
and management platforms from Siemens (Desigo PX and Desigo CC) were used. This allows everything to be efficiently monitored and controlled. Provisions have also been made for emergencies: Should the main heating system fail, large heating oil tanks (45,000 liters) are available for emergency supply. A new gas warning system also protects the heating plant.
The Reutte District Hospital benefits from the comprehensive Siemens solution through a significant CO2 reduction of 1,580 tons per year, which ensures the climate neutrality of heat generation across the entire campus. This not only leads to increased energy efficiency and reduced operating costs but also to higher operational reliability thanks to modern control systems and emergency supply. The hospital thus positions itself as a pioneer for sustainability and digitalization in the healthcare sector, which significantly enhances its future viability and attractiveness.
The Reutte/Tyrol District Hospital sees itself as a local hospital and a comprehensive point of contact for all health-related matters in the region. Beyond mere patient care, it functions as an academic teaching hospital for the Universities of Vienna and Innsbruck, which underscores its role in medical education and research. The hospital campus in Reutte is also a holistic health and education center, housing two nursing homes, a nursing school, two student residences, and accommodation for staff. This comprehensive infrastructure reflects the hospital's commitment to providing not only medical care but also education and a supportive environment for its community. Furthermore, its collaboration with partners like Siemens since 2019, during which four energy efficiency projects have already been implemented, demonstrates the Reutte District Hospital's pursuit of operational excellence and sustainability.
