The customer operates two production machines. One of them is using an old version of SIMOVERT MASTERDRIVES converters. Since this product has been discontinued between 2011 and 2014, spare parts for the SIMOVERT family will be available until 2020. If any faults or failures occur after that time, spare parts are not available immediately and the customer suffers from long unplanned downtimes - unless the customer has a comprehensive supply of spare parts in stock.
Thats why the customer wanted Siemens to replace the older version of their SIMOVERT MASTERDIRIVES with a successor converter from the SINAMICS family.
Furthermore, the customer requested to increase the power of their machines.
The machine, which is using the older version of the customer´s SIMOVERT MASTERDRIVES, has been replaced with the new standard product out of the current Siemens portfolio: The SINAMICS S120. For more information, take a look at the technical solution in detail.
Since there is still another machine running with the SIMOVERT MASTERDRIVES, the old uninstalled converters will be used as spare for the second machine.
